Sarah Tarpoff Writing Project

The East Lansing Educational Foundation is proud to support and promote the Sarah Tarpoff Writing Project in conjunction with the Writing Project Board.   All funds used to adminster this rich and rewarding project are mananged by ELEF.

History
The Sarah Tarpoff Writing Project was created in 1985 as a memorial to Sarah Tarpoff who was a student at Bailey School when she died as a result of a horseback riding accident.  Sarah was an accomplished rider and devoted to horses.  She also loved to write and draw so it was fitting that this project was created in her name to foster and encourage other children to express themselves through their own creative efforts.

For 22 years every student in East Lansing has been invited to submit an original poem, essay, story or play.  Each manuscript is read and evaluated individually.  Every entrant receives a ribbon honoring his or her participation.  In addition, students in grades K - 2, receive Young Author commendations, while students in grades 3 -12 are awarded placement ribbons.

All blue ribbon entries can be found in bound volumes at the East Lansing Public Library.  To all authors and artists who submitted work on behalf of Sarah Tarpoff, we give our heartfelt thanks.  You keep a dream alive!

ELPS Calander
Each year the East Lansing Educational Foundation produces a calendar showcasing twelve of the blue ribbon entries.  The entries are accompanied by illustrations conceptualized and drawn by students in the East Lansing High School Advanced Placement art class.  Calendars are available for $10.00.  To purchase a calendar, please contact Michele Huisgen, ELEF Administrator, by telephone at 517.333.7439 or email: huisgen_ml@elps.k12.mi.us.
