Teacher Grant Program
On February 17, 2010, the East Lansing Educational Foundation approved 35 mini-grants totaling $11,651.00. Teachers in the elementary, middle school and high school will receive funds to purchase materials (i.e., books, software, math manipulatives, etc.) and experiences (i.e., virtual field trip, Big Zoo lesson, guest muscian, etc.) that will enhance the learning in their classrooms. On February 17, 2009, the East Lansing Educational Foundation (ELEF) surprised East Lansing teachers gathered for a day of professional development with the announcement of the winners of the foundation’s first Collaboration Grants focused on technology.

Red Cedar Elementary, Marble Elementary and MacDonald Middle School will all receive funding for digital projectors and cameras as winners of the ELEF awards. In total, $16,000 will be distributed among the three schools.
“With this new Collaboration Grant,” explains Rich Mikel of the ELEF Board and Grant Committee, “we are moving the foundation forward into the realm of technology, especially technology that brings students and teachers together to collaborate around the curriculum.”

Program History
Established in September, 1984, the East Lansing Educational Foundation recognizes that the quality of an educational system and the vitality of the community it serves are inexorably intertwined. In hopes of nourishing and strengthening this relationship, the Foundation, through the use of private resources, has committed its support to programs and projects which supplement the educational opportunities available to our children.
The Teacher Grant Program was designed to fulfill this mission. Currently, the Teacher Grant Committee accepts and processes grant applications twice a year (September and January). Over the last five and half years, more than $120,000.00 has been awarded by this program. The grants have enhanced the learning environment for all students by reaching each and every one of the ELPS schools.
