Endowment Campaign for East Lansing Public Schools

The East Lansing Educational Foundation is proud and excited to announce the Endowment Campaign for East Lansing Public Schools, a $1.3 million endowment campaign to directly improve public education in East Lansing Public Schools forever. That's the beauty of an endowment fund - once you've helped us raise this $1.3 million endowment, we'll use the interest to award $65,000 to our students and teachers every year, forever! Your tax-deductible investment today makes you a benefactor for East Lansing education in perpetuity.

This endowment campaign will raise and manage funds for four areas that are key to preserving (and expanding) East Lansing's tradition of excellence. In recent years, these areas have been affected by budget cuts and will be bolstered by endowment support:

Academic Excellence - you may choose to support professional development for teachers, dynamic learning experiences in and out of the classroom, or grants to teachers to support their creativity and expertise.

Excellence in the Arts - you may choose to support art, music and drama classes as well as musicals, comedies and dramas performed in our state-of-the-art auditoriums at the middle and high schools.

Technological Excellence - you may choose to support a technology renewal fund or a professional development fund so our students have fully functioning 21st century tools to work with in every subject area.

Excellence in Athletics, Clubs and Activities - you may choose to support physical fitness and wellness, before and after school activities, and student clubs to insure that students have access to enriching opportunities outside classroom hours.

We will work with the Capital Region Community Foundation to manage and invest our funds. Planned gifts of stock, life insurance or other financial instruments are welcome. And remember, your donations are tax-deductible and may also be eligible for a substantial Michigan tax credit!

Invest now and leave an education legacy! Help us build a solid and impressive foundation for our public launch in early 2010.  Contributions can be mailed to Ann McDaniel, Treasurer, East Lansing Educational Foundation, 841 Timberlane, East Lansing, MI 48823.

Please note that it is the policy of the ELEF to hold 5% of designated endowment funding in our general endowment fund to help sustain the mission of the foundation.

Celebrate the Past - Create the Future

On March 18, 2010, the East Lansing Educational Foundation officially launched the $1.3 million dollar Endowment Campaign for East Lansing Public Schools.

The public attended a press conference kicking off the campaign and unveiled a donor appreciation plaque at East Lansing High School’s Performing Arts Center.

ELEF Co-Presidents Joan Berardo (L) and Jane Bitsicas stand with the foundation's newly dedicated Donor Application Plaque at ELHS. Elementary teacher Lorraine Ware explains how she used a grant from the East Lansing Educational Foundation to take her third graders to the Potter Park Zoo for a week-long Big Zoo lesson.  Superintendent Dave Chapin thanks the foundation for the work they do on behalf of the school district.

In the evening, the foundation hosted an invitation-only launch party and celebration at MSUFCU’s beautiful new headquarters.  Over 100 guests went ‘back to school’ to learn about the foundation, the endowment and the ways art and technology can enhance East Lansing classrooms.
